XIV Pan-American Championships
On October 27, 2007 the International Traditional Karate Federation held its XIVth Pan- American Traditional Karate Championships in Lima, Peru. It was an incredible, successful event with 8 countries competing and over 100 participants which included ITKF Officials, qualified judges and athletes of traditional karate competing in the categories of Individual Kumite, Individual Kata, Fukugo, Synchronized Kata, Team Kumite and Enbu.
The Organizing Committee and President Marcos Moron-Novaro of Asociacion Peruana de Karate Tradicional had the incredible task of hosting this momentous event. All participants stayed at the Coliseo Cerrado Del Casino Club de Policia del Peru, located in the District of La Molina, which is also where the Championships were held. This was the location of a week’s worth of activities which included the ITKF Pan-American Meeting, Judges Refresher Course, Judges Examinations, Pan-American Championships elimination round and of course, the Championship itself. In addition, Master Hidetaka Nishiyama (Chairman, ITKF) received two important awards from the Mayor of the City of Lima, Dr. Luis Castañeda Lossio, and the President of Federico Villarreal University for his great contribution to the development of traditional Karate in Peru and preserving the budo spirit.
The day of the Championships started at 8:00 a.m. with the elimination round. The elimination round determined which athletes qualify to participate in the final round of the Championships. The represented countries were Canada, United States of America, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela, Chile and Peru.
